Space Centre Double

Two ‘Changing Places’ facilities have opened at the Space Centre in Pedders Lane, Ashton and were officially opened by the Mayor of Preston, Cllr. Veronica Afrin.
Space Centre manager Alison Shorrock said: “Wheelchair accessible toilets are simply not suitable for those with profound physical disabilities. Currently there are no such facilities in Preston city centre, so many of our parents will travel to The Trafford Centre to shop where they do have one of these rooms. The changing place rooms at Space are the first facilities of their kind in Preston to be open, not only to the people using Space, but to the general public as well as on a ring ahead basis. Also families who are having their houses adapted and have no bathroom facilities for several weeks will be able to use our facilities by arrangement.”
Councillor Afrin said: “It was a wonderful day. I am honoured to have been part of the opening of the new facilities.”
The opening also saw Ian Driver from Springfield Fuels Ltd, Peter Metcalf from the Harris Charity, and Scott Clarke from Zurich attend. All three organisations donated funds for the new loos.
Rosemary McLean from Barton, Preston, who has campaigned for these kinds of toilets to be opened in Preston was also in attendance with her daughter Hollie.
